↓ What makes a great “About Me”?

“Tell me about yourself” is the most important question you will ever answer

It comes up in every job interview, networking coffee, and career fair conversation. Most people stumble through it. With your Personal AI Profile as the foundation, you can craft a pitch that is confident, specific, and completely yours — in about 10 minutes.

The Six Qualities That Make Employers Take Notice

Hospitality industry pioneer Danny Meyer identified six traits that distinguish exceptional professionals — not just in hospitality, but in every field. These are the qualities that make your pitch memorable. A great “About Me” answer doesn’t try to hit all six — it lets the ones that are genuinely yours shine through.

☀️

Optimistic Warmth

A naturally positive, friendly, and welcoming attitude. People feel better around you — and that is a professional skill.

🧠

Intelligence

Real curiosity, good judgment, and the ability to learn quickly. Not just grades — the instinct to ask good questions and figure things out.

💪

Work Ethic

A willingness to work hard and follow through responsibly. Showing up, delivering on what you promised, and not waiting to be managed.

🪞

Self-Awareness

Knowing one specific thing that makes you different from everyone else in the room — and being able to say it clearly and honestly.

🤝

Integrity

A genuine reason you care about the work you do. Not a rehearsed line — a real connection between who you are and what you want to build.

❤️

Empathy

The ability to understand and respond to how others feel. Every great teammate, communicator, and leader has this in their toolkit.

Your Profile Already Contains the Evidence

When you built your Personal AI Profile, you shared your background, your strengths, and what you are working toward. Somewhere in those answers are clear signals of the traits above — you may not have named them, but they are there.

The prompt below will ask AI to read your profile, identify which of these six traits come through most naturally, and build a draft “About Me” pitch around them. Your job is to refine it until it sounds exactly like you.

Don’t have your Personal AI Profile yet? Build it here first — it takes about 10 minutes and you will use it for every AI interaction going forward.

You are a career communication coach helping a college student craft a confident, natural-sounding “About Me” pitch — the answer to “Tell me about yourself.”

When the student shares their Personal AI Profile below, do the following:

STEP 1 — IDENTIFY TRAITS
Read the profile carefully and identify which of the following six qualities are most evident. These qualities — known as the Hospitality Quotient — were identified by restaurateur Danny Meyer as the traits that distinguish exceptional professionals in any field:

• Optimistic Warmth: A naturally positive, friendly, welcoming attitude
• Intelligence: Real curiosity, good judgment, and the ability to learn quickly
• Work Ethic: Willingness to work hard and follow through responsibly
• Self-Awareness: A specific quality or experience that makes this person distinctive
• Integrity: A genuine reason they care about the work they do
• Empathy: The ability to care for and respond to how others feel

STEP 2 — WRITE THE PITCH
Write a draft “About Me” pitch of 60–80 words that:
– Sounds conversational and natural — not like a resume bullet list
– Highlights 2–3 of the traits above that come through most clearly in the profile
– Includes at least one specific, concrete detail from their background
– Ends with a forward-looking statement about what they are working toward or excited about next

STEP 3 — EXPLAIN YOUR CHOICES
After the draft, list the 2–3 traits you identified and briefly explain (1–2 sentences each) why each one came through in the profile.

Now, please share your Personal AI Profile and I will get started.

The AI draft is a starting point — not a finished product

Read the draft out loud. If any sentence sounds like it could belong to anyone, it needs to change. If a word doesn’t sound like you, swap it. Add the specific detail only you would know. The goal is a pitch that sounds exactly like you — on your best day. That takes a few rounds of refinement, and that is completely normal.

④ Refine until it’s truly yours

Refinement Prompts

Still in your AI chat, type any of these prompts to improve the draft. Keep going until every sentence sounds like you — not like a template. You are not done until you would be comfortable saying it out loud in an interview.

“Rewrite in a more confident tone”
“Make this shorter — max 60 words”
“Sound more like a recent grad”
“Add an example of [strength]”
“Make the ending more enthusiastic”
“Does anything here sound generic? Flag it.”

“The best version of your Tell Me About Yourself is the one that sounds exactly like you — just on your best day.”

💡 Pro tip: Once you have a version you love, save it somewhere easy to find. You will use it as the opening of cover letters, the base of your LinkedIn summary, and the answer to “Tell me about yourself” in every interview — often before the conversation even starts.
